Cyclohub

1st Year Summer Project

Key to answering London’s straining residential capacity and transport systems is developing and enriching sustainable transport networks. Poplar is currently a major thoroughfare into the capital from the East, with an existing cycle path approaching the site, however, that is where it terminates, with no evident climax. The cyclo hub stands as the solution, providing bicycle storage, repair, changing facilities as well as housing a cafe and community space for local residents.

The elegant timber structure is formed from laminated recycled timber, and provides much needed solar protection for the open glass facades. A visual plinth is created through the use of gabions, filled with waste bricks from neighbouring building sites. Both the plan and structure aim to create a dynamic aesthetic, inspired by the movement and visuals of cycling.
