Located in Sharjah, UAE, this project sets out to explore the studio themes of density and artistic industries. The initial part was a group project, defining a framework in which to work during the latter part. Our concept involved a number of interventions along the existing Al-Dhaid road, each with slightly differing functions, suited to the local physical and cultural context in an attempt to create an artistic culture and industrial network across the emirate. I then proceeded to develop a proposal for an artistic monastery to be sited within an existing industrial complex adjacent to the aforementioned road. This scheme utilised lightweight construction methods to intervene on the existing structures in a number of ways, creating residential, studio and gallery spaces. Note: This is a current project and still being further developed.
